Let’s see. So, what were the highlights?
– Oooh, HER Gist clocked a year old….3weeks ago. Yaaay. Don’t judge me! The point is I remembered.
– Uum…Baby Girl had her first dance on Thursday, Valentine’s day dance. Still wrapping my mind around that one, don’t recall any ‘socials’ in primary 5, never mind dance. I can hear my parents now,
“Is that what we sent to go and learn in school? Olodo, she came 23rd out of 39, and now wants to go to a dance. If I give you one slap, ehn. Dance ko, sing ni! Will you clear out of my sight? Rubbish!” Usually followed with an ear popping hiss. (Shudder)
Anyway, we went shopping together for her outfit. Of course that was not without its brand of drama. Picked out an outfit, she said “No”. I insisted. She protested. I’m tired. I relented and let her pick something ON HER OWN. About an hour later (55mins too long), time to go pick up the boys from basketball practice, she finally got her perfect outfit. Sigh. Aaaaand it’s the same outfit I selected earlier.
Why? Because ‘Lynn’ says she looks nice in pink. REALLY?! Since when? Which one is Lynn? Didn’t I babysit him and he peed on me? God forgive me, but all those kids look alike to me, jare. Wait, come o, how does he even know she looks lovely in pink? School uniform is yellow and blue. Anywho, that comes later.
– And for the highlight de week- Friday the 13th. It all began with a drive thru the afternoon rush hour traffic on BW parkway. Rushing to BWI airport with 5 kids was like a scene from freaking Home Alone movie. Made it just in time to check the bags in, and the drama begins to unfold.
“Ma’am, may I have your id?” very politely too the clerk asked me.
I smiled, dipped my hand into my home-on-the-go, you know the one, the Mommy Bag. My mom had one, and I promise you that you will find WHATEVER it is you are seeking in that bottomless pit. So, I swore I’d never get one. Then again, I also swore to become Mrs Michael Jackson, but here we are so…But I digress.
So, I reach for mi purse o, and wait for it…My driver’s license said “Come, carry me nah!” I looked up and smiled at the clerk in a mix of disbelief and painful politeness. The busy airport actually turned dead silent. WTH!
I forgot/lost/ misplaced….I CAN NOT FIND MY LICENSE! ‘Apa mi mejeji ja bo‘ What else have I left behind? Did a quick head count of the kids. Good, 5 is still the magic number.
Just then, DH, who’d gone to park the in the garage, walked in through the glass double doors. He took one look at me and began shaking his head. And in response I’m shaking my head too.
Suddenly he was standing in front of me, and I somehow managed to tell him what had happened.
Fast forward 15minutes and a Costco card later, we were on our way to sunny Florida.
And now, here we are stranded in Tampa, from the snowstorm in Baltimore. Kool, pun intended.
I was really looking forward to going home; but ‘koi baat nahin’. We get a few more hours of family time, I think… before going back to reality. Everyone’s doing that their own thing- Big Boi is on his tablet, Middleton is on his laptop with his headphones on, Baby Girl is chatting/texting away on her precious phone and the twins are running amuck. Thankfully, it’s early so the airport is not too crowded. Where’s DH? Ah! Of course there he is catching up on work on his laptop.
The ideal family…well, in a techy sorta way 🙂
The absolute best part… I get to some journaling….electronically of course, Anything less would be a crime, I think at this point.
